A coating often found on the surface of tubular metal sheathed heating elements after annealing, heat treatment or prolonged use at elevated temperatures. Inert and generally harmless, though can cause staining to material it comes into contact with. Special annealing processes can prevent the build up of oxide for aesthetic or performance related design.
